Spain, 2000: A young man breaks his silence. He says his name is Nicholas Mark Randall, that he is American, and that he was kidnapped four years earlier by members of a cult. To the surprise of the Spanish police, who suspect him of being a repeat impostor, his sister comes to pick him up and takes him back to the United States, to Louisiana, where his family seems to recognize him. Local media reports on this miraculous return alert the FBI, whose agent, Jennifer Johnson, becomes increasingly suspicious of Nicholas’s true identity and the family’s surprising behavior.
