A disillusioned Polish writer and refugee, Stan lives with his ex-wife Barbara, who has since remarried Henri. A misunderstanding leads Henri and his friend Jacques to believe that Stan has attempted suicide. From then on, they go out of their way to pamper the “poor Stan,” turn- ing him into a kind of martyred hero and wildly specu- lating in an effort to make his death easier…
